I waited until the Easter decorations appeared before I cleared any trees or rocks or bought any decorations. I’m assuming I will soon have a Blabbit.
I don’t have a hotel or storage shed because I just started MSM in January and I am still enamored of all the monsters and decorations. I just can’t bear to put any of them away yet. I’m sure I’ll eventually grow tired of them, lock some away, and begin real decorating. For now everything seems to fit except for the toob, and I couldn’t see buying a storage shed for one item.
My first attempt at any decorating was the heart I made on Air Island in February. All this island has beyond the monster likes is some extra wild bagpipes, a second castanevine, a second eerie remains, and my first attempt at using path tiles. Once I revise the island with serious decorating, I’ll post an update.
I thought beetamom’s cemetery on her plant island looked like the skeleton of the Loch Ness monster, and I decided Nessie belonged on Water Island. The undertaker, or whatever you call the person who looks after a cemetery, lives in the cozee cabin. The baker lives in the tree forte tower. I bought the squeed statue for my reedling instead of the cheaper pipes of cicado because the pipes didn’t seem to fit anywhere and I really like the squeed statue. (Does anybody make replicas of these decorations so you can decorate your home like your island? I’d love to have about a six inch squeed statue in my bookcase.)
Practical considerations:
(1) I have trouble clicking and dragging, so I keep the place clear where eggs hatch from the nursery so that I can place them easily. I put the directions and trumplite around this area so that newly hatched monsters can get their bearings and know where they are. I liked this arrangement on my Air Island and decided to try to incorporate some version of it on all my islands.
(2) When I log in to the game, I collect from all my monsters, even those without the thing over their head. I find it is much easier if I separate single-element monsters, dual-element monsters, etc., since they all reach max about the same time. So the first group on the right includes Lark, Headbeat, Digit, and Audrey. The second group in the center is Acorn (the community organizer), Barry (Shrubb Barry = shrubbery), Aussie, and Prince, flanked by Mosquito and Ivory. The third group is Mama (in the forest), Reid (among the wild bagpipes), Cowgirl and Kodo (on the stumps). Whether I am trying for a Blabbit or a Jeeode, there’s usually a Scups egg in the right of the breeder and another in the nursery, so Cowgirl is in the perfect position to keep an eye on them. The Shellbeat is named Wicker because of the erotic scene involving a heavy beat and slugs from the movie Wicker Man. The Jeeode is named Gemma after a friend of mine. The Blabbit is named Roger because another friend of mine got her first job as an animator on Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
(3) I’m saving money to upgrade the castle on Earth Island, so I haven’t yet bought the dragon tower for my Scups and Shellbeat, the tub fountain for my Jeeode, or the floofy nest for my Blabbit. I plan to put the tub fountain in the area to the left of the castle where the reflecting pool is now and the dragon tower in the area to the right of the castle where the flappy flag is now. I’m not sure where I’ll put the floofy nest.
Acknowledgements:
--Because of all the trees, I never noticed the three medium rocks on the right in a straight line until I saw it used by 1luvgaming.
--Putting bagpipes around the reedling, adding the sculptures to the center in a circle, and naming my Cybop Mosquito were all inspired by NewMexShell.
--Hiding some monsters behind trees came from FloridaWhite’s Plant Island.
--Hiding the mine in the upper left came from Euphoria.
--The placement of the fossilosaurus and eerie remains came from Michou’s Air Island.
--The extra eerie remains came from beetamom as did the placement of the harpsitree with my Shrubb.
--The mirrored castanevines came from SandyKay1212 although I’ve seen others do it since.
In other words, this island is basically a copy of all I have seen here, only done less well. I cannot create the melodious harmony of FloridaWhite, the majestic order of Tazruby, the balanced symmetry of Moncilla, the geometric patterns of 1luvgaming, the marvelous use of tiles of 1Doodles, the natural beauty of Michou, the uncluttered simplicity of SandyKay, the lovely tiles and celebration of pink of Euphoria, the careful zoning of Aiwevanya, the perfect use of every single square to create the desired result of pkjgbr and beetamom, the powerful islands full of Wubboxs, 4-Es and words spelled with tiles of try3cats, the incredible park, winter resort, Caribbean island, ancient ruins, living reef, and flowing lava river of NewMexShell, or the stunning originality of Annatar. But I am having a great time viewing their masterpieces and using their ideas to create my own little world.

Wow! WOW! WOW!
What a GREAT island, and such a wonderful story! I figure that you must be an author, or script-writer!
I am betting you will put your Blabbit on the upper left pedestal ;) I can see that the spot is reserved for something special, and that would be the perfect place for your Blabbit to be a featured monster (like the oh-so-lovely Jeeode).
I do not like the Toob either, but it is required for some mosters' happiness - I usually shrink it to as small as possible, then put it behind something - if I remember right, it will fit behind the Breeding Structure and you won't see it at all. I only have one storage shed, on Earth Island, because when I tore it down for the 60-Noggin version, I could not bear to part with the expensive decorations. You have demonstrated the art of keeping all the "liked" decorations, without a shed, and making a harmonious whole.
(I did break down and buy some hotels, since some monsters were "liked" by others but I did not want them showing, e.g., the Spunge so once you have the Unity Tree, in the hotel they can go)
I really like all your monsters' names, too!
Congratulations on a great job!

FloridaWhite,
I laughed at the concept of you stealing my idea to hide the Spunge, since I stole the idea from your hiding of the Entbrat on your plant island. Can you steal from yourself?
No, I'm not an author. I don't have a creative bone in my body. But I do have good organizational and communication skills. I used to write technical manuals and system help files. I was a certified records manager, hence the crm in my user name. I would do legal research for multinational companies to develop guidelines lawyers could understand on how long to keep records. Then I would analyse workflow, design filing and document management systems, and communicate to clerical staff around the world how to use the systems, when they could safely destroy obsolete records, and how to streamline and automate their tasks. Basically, I wasn't even a paper pusher. I just told other people how to push paper. But it did require communicating clearly with everyone from lawyers to file clerks. An example of the kind of writing I did is the many charts created by tazruby to explain things in MSM.
For those outside the US, a records manager is an occupation largely limited to the US because we constantly sue each other. Companies want to destroy records as soon as possible so they can avoid huge document production costs in litigation. It is also handy for destroying records of criminal activity without appearing to do so. (I did a lot of work for the Koch brothers.) It is very popular in a country with no sense of history. Other countries have archivists who focus on preserving records instead of destroying them.
So now you know WAY more about me than you ever wanted to know.

Thank you for the compliments, cbcrm! I like your island, and I'm sending you positive waves, to ensure you get a blabbit very soon! :)) Let us know when you do get one! ;)

You designed systems from manual processes or sometimes from nothing, you wrote documentation from scratch clearly understandable to various audiences, and you provided ad hoc support to meet unpredictable and complex questions. You might want to check your skeleton over again. ;)

I like your forrestry to the left, and I like your reedling peeking out of the massed bagpipes. It's a chaotic and colourful left island against a more staid and regimented right island. After reading what you did for a living it looks like you have brought order out of chaos. Congratulations cbcrm. :)

Sooo I bet I have more easter eggs than you do.
I didn't think anyone else would have as many trees & rocks as I do.
Just beautiful, I really had to hunt for your hump back shellbeat, why are you hiding that moneymaker?
I see you are saving the top left for another Jeeode.
I want one sooo bad, hopefully soon. Great job placing them all around in their natural habitat. I love it. Thumbs up to you.

The top left is for my Blabbit. He's there, but only Jimmy Stewart can see him. Hopefully, he'll come out where we all can see him before Easter.
pkjgbr: April 13, 2014
So, you'll be naming him Harvey then?

Blabbit is here in time for Easter! All the decorations are purchased; Dragon Tower, Floofy Nest, and Tub Fountain are new. Prince the Fwog and Mosquito the Cybop have switched placed. I changed some tiles. Water has splashed out of the fountains creating puddles. The baker has planted some strange plants in the garden behind his house.
cat52: April 19, 2014
Pride of place to the Blabb, too. I really like how the egged tree breaks up the vast lime expanse of the Spunge. It actually looks attractive LOL.
cbcrm: April 25, 2014
No changes, but here’s what it looks like without the Easter decorations. I like the green water much better than the pink. The bluish rocks fit in well. I think the design survived the transition in background quite well.
cat52: April 25, 2014
I not only agree, it was my first thought - your island is improved by the lack o'eggs. Is there any way you can gave us a bigger picture? The whole-screen clip doesn't sit my poor vision well, and there are some details I'd like to see better...?
