I've finally finished the tile job on this island. Using old knitting instructions and scetching outlines on grids, I managed to re-create an old pattern local to my home district. It is called the Selbu rose, and is quite well known in Norway. But... the result wasn't as stunning as I hoped. I don't know what it is, but I feel kinda disappointed. It looks OK I guess, but no more than that. Do anyone have any suggestions to what I should do with the rest around it - monsters, structures, decorations, trees etc., to make it stand out a little more, and move it from OK closer to stunning? :)
More pink puffle trees? Or something totally different? :-\

WoW! The tile-design is beautiful... !!! Me, personally, I'm missing some greens, rather than pinks, and I have a feeling, you are not quite done with arranging your monsters...(?)

That is exceptionally creative, unique, and best of all a bit of your old home district Norwegian history! Wow! Storartet!
I would suggest not adding a bunch of brightly colored trees, whether pink or green, because IMO they would distract the eye from the central pattern. It's going to be dark, that's basically all we have to work with on this island (given the 'head' the monsters live on, and the sky), so I would say, leave it mostly as is. I would make a couple of minor suggestions:
Move the Quarrister that is on the right upper side of the screen one pace back to match the one on the left upper right side of the screen, and make them both the same size, for a bit better centering and balance. I think all 6x4 giant pairs of eyes gazing down at your Selbu Rose really draws attention to it
Move the Pango out of the way, he is too close to the pattern, it looks best IMO if set off from everything else - you could stuff him down just below the Bakeries or, if you don't mind losing him from the song, stick him in the Hotel
For the same reason, move the Thumpies out of the way - possibly at the very bottom center of the screen, or, again, if you don't mind losing him from the song, stick him in the Hotel
I don't think it really needs it, but if you can pick out some small Decorations (very hard to do) to line the lower edge, in relatively subdued colors, maybe try that
Whatever you do, I hope you keep your Selbu Rose the undivided center of attention!

I love it! It's clean, well organized, it's not overloaded... the design looks flawless!

FW, thanks for all your extensive and very good advices. I followed most of them and added a bit of my own, so it looks different now. Will try to get a photo of it.
I can't wait to see how your knitting turns out, Moncilla! You must post a photo of it when it's done! :)

LoL... It's tax season. Hopefully, I'll get some time for creative stuff in a months or so...lol
I have already "copied" your design to a graph paper, and I did some hunting for good color threads... I'll make the pullover for you! I'm thinking of a flat chocolate brown color for the pullover, and add the design as a border around the bottom, and around the wrists. I'm contemplating to knit one of the monsters on the back... But first, I have to finish Try3's jewelry set.
By the way, Try3 have sent me an adorable shirt with a Wubbox pic on the chest.... I'm due with a picture wearing it... Please, bear with me, my friends! I'm a tad bit behind things... sorry. :(

It's very interesting how you are planning to use the traditional pattern! :) I haven't told you how it's used in Norway, so you are seeing it with new and untainted eyes. Around the bottom as a border sounds very interesting, and very fresh and new. I've never seen the pattern used in that way, so I'm very excited to see how it turns out. Traditionally, it's used in one or more borders around the shoulders and chest, often combined with other patterns. I'll see if i can find a photo for you. The pattern is also used on mittens, usually as one or two roses on the top side of the mitten. It's used the same way on socks. It's also sometimes used as a border on ski hats.
Colours can be anything, although the very traditional is using black/white (especially on mittens and socks) or blue, red and white which are our flag colours. If you're interested, I can try to find variations of the pattern for you, but if you Google "selburose" you should find a lot.

Maybe we should move our last posts over to the knitting thread...? B-| P-)
